Can’t wait for the boating season to start? Can’t wait for the summer sunshine ?

WMYC has come to the rescue with an Educate and Inspire series of talks.

A little more detail about each forum :

15th January – Chartering in turquoise seas

Barrie Neilson, who was one of the first people to set up flotilla sailing in the 1970s in Jaguar 22s, is coming along on January 15th  to talk about chartering, flotilla sailing and what you need to take on a bareboat around the Mediterranean. He also has great photographs to illustrate his talk.

29th January – Get the most out of your racing

Brian Gasson and Paul Jackson will be explaining the winning ways for racers. Both have raced locally for many years and are both experts on the water as well as experts in technology to enable racers to enter, find out details and sailing instructions. Brian and Paul aim to help newbie racers to know what to expect when they get out on the water.

12th February – Make your electronics work for you

Larry Botheras and Simon Palmer are the geeks who stay up-to-date with boat electrics and electronics Electronics can either bring out the geeks or the fear of god in our sailors. But in today’s world, electronics make life far easier – and safer. Do you know how to sync your iPad to your plotter or check your batteries’ data on your phone? It might seem to be a step too far and verging on AI, but it really isn’t. Our members will explain all and help you to understand your own electronics.

26th February – Crossing the Atlantic and Beyond

Always wanted to go Blue Yonder? Alan Brook will be giving a great talk on his crossing  with the ARC -Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. He has great photographs to illustrate. Alan’s boating history includes taking part in a circum-navigation of the world, local racing and generally messing about in boats since childhood.

12th March – How to splice an eye or simply understand todays ropes

We are also hoping bring a talk from a rope company with practical demonstrations on splicing, making soft shackles and making an eye splice.

26th March – How the Cruising in Company group explores far and near.

Finally, on March 26th there’s Cruising in Company – run by our Cruising Captains, Reg and Chris Dawson. In 2024, up to 60 members enjoyed cruising to all the local rivers and beyond with barbecues, sociable gatherings, pontoon parties and finding local pubs to meet up. The evening will show you all the places planned for 2025. Maybe Holland. Maybe St Katharine Docks. Maybe the River Orwell or Woodbridge. Each event is planned and organised by members of CiC, booking marina berths, restaurants and helping newcomers to moor their boats.
