Club Members Take On The World
Crusader took part in the 12 metre World Championship last week in the Porquerolles France with a total of 9 WMYC members and 1 ex member in her 14 man crew. Seven 12’s took part Grand Prix division which was hotly contested with some elite crews including several Olympians and one yacht with a current America’s Cup crew.
Five of the scheduled races were cancelled due to very strong winds. Our overall placement was compromised by a retirement in one race forced by a failed primary winch, but Crusader proved to be competitive with 3×3rd places.
I was delighted with the performance of boat and crew and we look forward to our next 12 metre regatta in September at Barcelona where we will be based in the America’s Cup Harbour during the AC trials.
