We are looking forward to visiting Titchmarsh and the Walton Backwaters over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of August. The highlight is expected to be a visit to the Harbour Lights Seafood restaurant which opened in July and is run by Sel (previously of West Mersea’s Oyster Bar and Island Fish Bar). Our restaurant booking is for 7.30pm on Saturday evening.
Whether you are coming by boat or car, you are welcome to join us for pre-meal drinks on board Mardi Gras from 6pm.
There are a hand full of boats that have committed to joining the cruise as well as a number of people choosing to go by car.
The distance from West Mersea to Titchmarsh by sea is 27.3nm (25.7nm to the Walton Backwaters) and the tide times aren’t perfect, but there are some useful work arounds :
- Friday afternoon / eve sail to the Walton Backwaters departing WM around 3pm, anchor in the Backwaters overnight, sail in to Titchmarsh on Saturday.
- Saturday early morning sail to Titchmarsh departing WM around 6am to reach Pye end around 09:40 (LW Walton) and catch the flood in to Titchmarsh.
- Saturday afternoon departure (it’ll be tough to get to the restaurant in time unless you’ve speed to spare !). Approx 3pm departure fighting the last of the flood (WM HW 16:29) , aiming to arrive at Titchmarsh by 7pm – 27nm in 4 hrs !
For those able to spend an extra night, your trip organisers are planning to spend Sunday night at anchor on Hamford Water before returning to West Mersea on Monday.
