Sonata Project – Volunteers required
Many of you will be aware that the club has recently purchased a Sonata as part of a joint initiative with the DSC to promote a ‘pathway’ from dinghy sailing to keelboat sailing for members of both clubs.
The aim is to encourage low-cost keelboat sailing and racing for the younger club members and will contribute to the long-term viability of local keelboat racing.
To achieve this aim, the Sailing Committee are looking for volunteers from within the club that wish to get involved with the project. Initially, we intend to generate a small team of experienced skippers and crew who would be willing to sail with those members and cadets stepping up from dinghy sailing and may have limited access to keelboats.
In addition, we are also seeking volunteers willing to take on some of the inevitable day-to-day maintenance of running a boat during the season. It is anticipated that with the right team in place neither of these roles should be too arduous nor time consuming.
There are few administrative issues that will need to be resolved as the project rolls out, but for now we are looking for expressions of interest from members who feel they have the skills and capacity to give a bit back to the club. If this person is you, please contact any member of the Sailing Committee and we will contact you direct.
